When I was little, my idea of make-believe was playing teacher with my Lillien Vernon school kit (Thanks mom and dad! To the people with children: I did not pursue that dream. You are welcome for that.). Now that we’re in the digital age, and I have a real job, my idea of make believe is pretending I have enough disposable income to shop at the most elite stores (online of course, I can’t reenact the Pretty Woman shopping scene one more time).
So when venture into la-la land, I visit the more financially risqué sites and imagine a world of what ifs. What if I had endless resources and could buy something, ANYTHING from Shopbop? What if I could buy those Madewell sandals without batting an eyelash? What if I had Margot Robbie’s body?! What if?!
Here’s the breakdown of my latest imaginary online shopping spree:
Altuzarra Portia gingham Crinkled-Poplin Dress, $1,690: This gingham dress is chic and just a little bit country. Perfect for Atlanta’s hot summer nights.
MSGM Pineapple Long Full Skirt, $595: I love maroon, and I’ve heard from certain fashionistas that it could be considered a neutral. However, I can’t picture wearing this color in the spring and summer months. This print eliminates any trepidation I have. Not only is it a great transition piece, but it also happens to have my favorite fruit printed all over it.
Madewell The Veronique Sandal in Colorblock, $128: I wore a pair of black and brown Mossimo sandals nearly every day last summer. In fact, I wore them so much that their soles are practically gone. They matched everything. These shoes look sturdy, and are a more chic way to incorporate the sportswear sandal trend that unfortunately made its way from the runway to the general public this season.
Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack, $295: I’ve been obsessed with purse backpacks since Clueless, and I owned my fair share of them in the 90s. Imagine my delight when these bad boys came back in style. This backpack would work year-round, and is the perfect size to hold all of my necessary STUFF (makeup, sunglasses, sunblock, New Kids on the Block trading cards, etc.).
Nanette Lepore Havana Tropical One Piece, $148: It’s no secret that I love a good print. I also love a well-structured one-piece. Nanette Lepore has both feminine prints and great lines. This bathing suit is actually a steal, considering the plain Jane J. Crew suit I bought last year was about $130 (regular price, but I bought that Betty on sale).
Grand Total (not including taxes because this is an imaginary world): $2,856 (a.k.a more than twice my rent)
